How not to sell a house

Recently, I’ve been scoping out a lot of houses with a view to purchase.  Thankfully, I can stop now, as with any luck I’ve found my as-close-to-ideal-as-is-realistic-home.

The following are my observations about how not to entice buyers:

  • Still live there
    Sorry, but vacant properties are so much nicer to scope out. There’s usually a minimum amount of the previous occupiers stuff there, which makes it easier to imagine how it would look with your stuff in it. The rooms naturally look bigger with less clutter in them, and you feel less English about poking around all the corners.
  • Rent the place out to a Polish mechanic who turns up half way through a viewing and starts screaming at the potential purchaser and the estate agent to get out his house before he knifes them
    Self explanitory, one feels.

A lot to know in this world

There’s an awful lot of things you can do with WordPress, isn’t there?

Yes, not a very original observation.  It’s a very powerful tool. 

Yours truly is supposed to be a web developer.  Connection strings?  No worries.  Stored procedures? Eat ‘em for breakfast (that’s why I have to drink so much, you see.  To make up for the defiecencies elsewhere in my diet).  The various things you can do with this however, actually have me reaching for the manual, and that’s never happened before.

5 Questions

Well, I’d been toying with starting a blog for a while, and since Aphra Behn very kindly took the time to ask me 5 Questions, that seemed like the kick up the backside I needed to get going.  So, here we go then:

 1) What is the girliest outfit you have ever worn, what was the event you wore it for, and does whoever made you wear it still bear the scars?

Hmm, the girliest? My first thought was the dress I wore to my 6th form leavers ball, but thinking about it I’m not sure a long black and red velvet dress is girly. I wanted to wear a tux, but sadly the narrow minded masters organising the ball decided that was a no-no.
